The Maryland Transit Administration received more than $16 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation to improve MARC Commuter Rail, Howard Transit, Connect-A-Ride and Western Anne Arundel County transit services, Maryland’s two U.S. senators announced.

MARC was awarded $6.8 million to purchase new rail cars and $6.1 million to complete parking expansion in West Baltimore.

In addition, a $3.3 million grant will fund acquisition of two pieces of land on Corridor Road in Howard County for an operations and maintenance facility to be shared by the area’s public transit agencies.
