Shale D. Stiller has returned to DLA Piper as a partner in its Baltimore (Mount Washington) office after serving as president of the Weinberg Foundation for five years.  He is a co-chair of Mayor Rawlings-Blake’s transition team, a board member of East Baltimore Development and a Johns Hopkins University trustee, among other leadership positions in the community. Stiller has taught taxation, commercial law, constitutional law and federal jurisdiction at the University of Maryland School of Law.

Semmes, Bowen & Semmes, of Baltimore, has added two attorneys. John A. Roberts has joined the firm as principal. He concentrates his practice in bankruptcy, creditors rights and commercial litigation.  Roberts received his degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law. James S. Maloney has rejoined the firm. He represents employers and insurers in workers’ compensation matters arising in Maryland, the District of Columbia and West Virginia from the firm’s Hagerstown office. Maloney also received his degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law.

Ober|Kaler has added two first-year associates to the litigation group in its Baltimore office: Elizabeth J. Cappiello handles civil litigation with respect to business, financial, construction and admiralty matters. She has served as a research assistant at the University of Maryland Center for Health and Homeland Security, and as a law clerk at the Maryland Disability Law Center and the Office of the General Counsel at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Cappiello is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law. Jack R. Daley focuses his practice on torts, personal injury, fraud and insurance matters. He has been an intern to the Honorable W. Michel Pierson at the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Frostburg State University.

Brassel Law Group, of Annapolis, has promoted Jennifer M. Alexander to partner and hired Nicholas B. Holtz as an associate. Alexander is a former Anne Arundel County assistant state attorney. She concentrates her practice in the areas of medical malpractice, products liability and criminal defense litigation. Alexander is a graduate of the College of Notre Dame and the University of Maryland School of Law. Holtz served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Pamela L. North, associate judge of the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court, then worked as associate counsel at the Board of Veterans’ Appeals, a division of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. He concentrates his practice in the areas of environmental, persona injury and criminal defense litigation.

Hodes, Pessin & Katz, of Towson, has promoted James R. Benjamin Jr. and Kimberly L. Battaglia to members of the firm. Benjamin received his law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law.  He clerked for the Honorable Ellen M. Heller, administrative judge, Circuit Court for Baltimore City.  Last year, he was named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers magazine. Battaglia received her degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law. Before becoming an associate with HPK in 2003, she served as a legal assistant of its wealth preservation department.

Beveridge & Diamond has elected Timothy M. Sullivan, of its Baltimore office, as a principal and shareholder. His practice focuses primarily on environmental and natural resources litigation before federal and state courts. Sullivan is a vice-chair of the Endangered Species Committee of the ABA’s Section on Environment, Energy, and Resources and a member of the Section Council of the Environmental Law Section of the Maryland State Bar Association.

Franklin M. Lee, an attorney with Tydings & Rosenberg, of Baltimore, recently received the Practitioner of the Year Award from the Black Law Students Association of the University of Maryland School of law. He received his degree from the law school in 1980 after serving as president of the association. Lee previously served for six years as antitrust litigation counsel at the Federal Trade Commission, and for over 15 years as chief counsel to the Minority Business Enterprise Legal Defense and Education Fund. Tydings & Rosenberg LLP is a Baltimore-based law firm serving clients throughout Maryland, the mid-Atlantic region, and the country. The firm’s practice focuses on corporate and business law, tax, real estate, litigation, intellectual property, bankruptcy/creditors’ rights, estates and trusts, and family law.

Sanford V. Teplitzky, chair of the health law group of Ober|Kaler, in Baltimore, has been recognized as a Client Service All-Star in the BTI Client Service All-Stars for Law Firms 2010 survey. Teplitzky represents health care clients in fraud and abuse matters, including government investigations and related matters. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland School of Law.

Shannon Waldron, an attorney with Hyatt & Weber, of Annapolis, achieved accreditation as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional with a specialty in building design and construction. She is one of six attorneys in Maryland to have LEED accreditation with this specialty. Waldron counsels clients in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County on residential and commercial development issues, subdivisions, rezonings, and critical area compliance. She previously served on the City of Annapolis Energy Efficiency Task Force.

Steve Immelt, co-chair of Hogan & Hartson’s litigation group and a partner in the Baltimore office, was named an International Management Committee member. He and Patrick Sherrington of Lovells will serve as litigation, arbitration and employment practice group leaders. Immelt focuses his practice on complex enforcement litigation, primarily in the health and life sciences industry. He also serves as Hogan & Hartson’s managing partner for International Offices and the managing partner for the Baltimore office. Immelt received his degree from the University of Maryland School of Law.

Two attorneys at Lerch, Early & Brewer, of Bethesda, have been recognized by Smart CEO magazine as “go-to attorneys for business law” in its “Legal Elite” issue. Paul Alpuche, a principal in the firm’s business & tax group, was selected for his work in business law and tax law. Joel Aronson, chair of the creditors’ rights & workouts group and a principal in the litigation group, was included for his work in litigation and creditor’s rights.

Sky Woodward (product liability defense litigation, and one of Maryland’s Top 25 Women Lawyers). Also, James Patrick Scholtes was recognized as a Rising Star.
