MiddleBrook Pharmaceuticals eyes merger or sale

MiddleBrook Pharmaceuticals Inc., of Westlake, Texas, formerly called Advancis Pharmaceuticals and based in Germantown, said it is eliminating its entire field sales force and significantly reducing corporate staff as it tries to preserve cash.
The company, which makes Moxatag, an extended-release form of amoxicillin, and Keflex, an antibiotic, also announced its president and CEO, John Thievon, resigned, effective Monday, to reduce operating expenses.
Moreover, MiddleBrook said it has hired New York-based Broadpoint Gleacher Securities Group as its financial advisor, to assist its board of directors in evaluating “strategic alternatives .
including a possible merger or sale of the Company.”
