ANNAPOLIS — A $5,000 tax credit for Maryland employers who hire unemployed residents has been approved by the House of Delegates.
The vote was 132-5 on Friday. The Senate already has approved an identical measure, which was proposed by Gov. Martin O’Malley.
O’Malley put $20 million in the budget for the initiative.
Both the House and Senate raised the credit from the $3,000 per worker that O’Malley initially proposed.
The Democratic governor has made job creation a main focus of this session to help the state recover from the recession.
