Maryland senators have endorsed changing the state’s slots policy to entice a bidder to a Western Maryland location.
Senators voted 40-7 Monday to approve a bill that would give any bidders for an Allegheny County slots license 35.5 percent of the gaming revenues for five years, instead of 33 percent, if they agree to buy the troubled Rocky Gap Lodge and Resort.
Slots officials rejected a proposal for the location last year because it did not meet certain requirements. Prior legislation required the slots facility to be physically separate from the Rocky Gap facility, but the bill would allow the buildings to be adjacent or connected.
The bill now moves to the House.
