Accounting
Dori E. Perry has joined KatzAbosch, of Timonium, as director of governmental contracting. She previously served as deputy comptroller of the Military Sealift Command, as senior manager for Cotton & Co. at the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, and at the Department of State, where she was responsible for financial advisory services. Perry also worked at the White House on the National Performance Review and has had key roles at the Federal Trade Commission and Federal Highway Administration.
Advertising
Brad Lebow has been promoted from chief operating officer to president of Horich Parks, of Hunt Valley. Chip Hector becomes chief operating officer, and Jon Parks becomes executive vice president. The marketing and advertising agency is dedicated exclusively to the furniture industry.
Awards
Robert Weinstein, a junior at The Shoshana S. Cardin School, has received a President’s Volunteer Service Award. The award, which recognizes Americans who have volunteered significant time to serve their communities and their country, was presented by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. Weinstein worked with children at St. Vincent’s Center and made sandwiches for Our Daily Bread in conjunction with Eats for the Streets. He is a member of Project ROPE (Roots of Philanthropic Education), a group that supports disadvantaged youth.
Stephen M. Shiloh, CEO of Maryland Correctional Enterprises, has received the Rodli Award for years of contributions to the field from the National Correctional Industries Association. MCE employs more than 2,000 inmates whose work includes restoration of the environment and production of furniture, textiles, printing, license plates, signs and food, in additional to charitable efforts.
The Greater Baltimore Medical Center’s Marketing Department recently received six Alfred Knight Awards from the Maryland Society for Health Care Strategy and Market Development, the state’s premier organization for professionals working in health care strategy and market development. The awards were for internal communications, media placement, newsletters, and GBMC’s website.
The Hyatt Regency Baltimore recently received the Mayor’s Business Recognition Award Business Recognition Award from the Greater Baltimore Committee for the hotel’s Family of Responsible and Caring Employees program, a community outreach initiative. Also, at the 11th Annual Minority Business Summit, the hotel received the Diversity Trailblazer Award from the Visionary Marketing Group, a national leader in the promotion of diversity and inclusion, for programs that train women and minorities for careers in the hospitality industry.
Dorothy Gold, senior oncology social worker at Greater Baltimore Medical Center’s Milton J. Dance Jr. Head and Neck Center, of Baltimore, has been named Social Worker of the Year by the Association of Oncology Social Work. The award “recognizes a professional who in the day-to-day delivery of compassionate service is a model for the profession, and who displays integrity and commitment to oncology social work, clinical expertise in delivering patient care services, and knowledge of community resources and skills in advocating for fulfilling patient and family needs.” Treatment of cancer patients is an important part of the care given at GBMC’s head and neck center.
Boards
The Baltimore Community Foundation has elected Ronald J. Daniels and Steven G. Ziger to its board of trustees. Retiring trustees George L. Bunting Jr. and Pam Shriver were named honorary trustees. Sandra Levi Gerstung was elected vice-chair of the board. Daniels is president of Johns Hopkins University. Ziger is a founding partner of Ziger/Snead Architects. He serves on the boards of the Baltimore Museum of Art, the William G. Baker Jr. Memorial Fund, Parks and People Foundation, the Baltimore Public Arts Commission, and the Maryland State Design Review Panel.
The board of directors of Adams Express Co., of Baltimore, has elected three executives to new positions: David D. Weaver was elected president. He is executive vice president of Adams Express. Weaver has a bachelor’s degree from what is now McDaniel College and a master’s from Johns Hopkins University. Nancy J.F. Prue was elected executive vice president of the board. She is also executive vice president of Adams Express’ non-controlled affiliate, Petroleum & Resources Corp. Prue earned MBA and law degrees from the University of Baltimore. Richard A. Church was elected vice president-research. He will continue to focus on the technology sector. His bachelor’s degree is from the University of Maryland.
Jane M. Brewer, a shareholder of certified public accounting, tax, and consulting firm KatzAbosch, of Timonium, has been named to the board of directors of the nonprofit Maryland Highway Safety Foundation. Brewer serves as chair of KatzAbosch’s partnership/LLC/real estate/construction tax group. She has been active in several organizations, including as chair of the State Tax Committee of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants and president of the National Association of Women Business Owners. Brewer earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Baltimore.
Remi Duyile, president and CEO for Image Consulting Group International, of Hyattsville, has been nominated to serve as a federal minister in the Republic of Nigeria. Duyile was the first African to serve on the Prince George’s Chamber of Commerce board of directors, and she chaired the chamber’s membership committee for several years. She is treasurer of the African Business Owner’s Forum. Image Consulting Group International helps U.S. businesses develop and pursue national and international opportunities. In 2009 it received a Top 100 Minority Business Enterprise Award.
Dr. Chris Snyder, Peninsula Regional Medical Center’s hospitalist and chief medical informatics officer, has been appointed to the Health Information Technology Advisory Committee of the board of the National Quality Forum, a nonprofit, organization with a mission to improve the quality of health care for all Americans. Snyder will speak in May at the annual National Patient Safety Foundation Patient Safety Congress on Peninsula Regional’s use of technology to help caregivers improve patient safety by using computerized physician order entry for high-risk medications.
Finance
Tom Iler has been appointed chief information officer of Ascend One, of Columbia. He previously served as SVP & chief information officer of Platform-A. Iler holds a bachelor’s degree from Loyola College and an MBA from the University of Baltimore. He serves on Towson University’s College of Business and Economics Advisory Board. Ascend One is the parent company to a family of financial businesses.
Health Care
Nancy Quailey-Giannopoulos has been appointed associate director for operations for the VA Maryland Health Care System. Her career with the Department of Veterans Affairs spans 25 years, including nine years as executive assistant to the director for the VA Maryland Health Care System. Quailey-Giannopoulos also has served as supervisory social worker for the system’s Managed Care Clinical Center. She is chairperson for the Executive Committee of the Administrative Services for the system.
Manufacturing
Patrick M. Antkowiak has been named vice president and general manager of the Advanced Concepts & Technologies Division for Northrop Grumman’s Electronic Systems sector in Linthicum. He joined the company in 1981 and has held positions in engineering, program management and product development. Antkowiak earned a bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and a master’s degree from the University of Maryland.
Marketing
gkv, of Baltimore, has promoted three employees: Amber Bradford has been promoted from public relations account executive to senior executive, Diane Wiles from junior media planner to media planner, and Amy Zimmerman from print production manager to director of print production.
Andrea Martin has been promoted to director at Warschawski, of Baltimore. She has worked at Warschawski since 2007, most recently as a senior associate.
Stephanie Frankel has joined Barb Clapp Advertising & Marketing, of Baltimore, as a senior account executive. She previously was communications manager for Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, and an account executive at Nevins & Associates.
Nonprofit
Steve Baldwin has been promoted to executive vice president for support services of The Children’s Guild. He continues to serve as chief financial officer for The Children’s Guild Institute and treasurer of The National Children’s Guild Fund and Monarch Academy. Baldwin joined The Children’s Guild in 2002 as vice president of finance and CFO. His degrees include a B.S. in accounting from Towson University. The Children’s Guild operates day school campuses for children in Baltimore City, Anne Arundel and Prince George’s counties, group homes and a foster treatment care program, and provides mental health support services to children in local schools.
Tamara W. Zavislan has been named executive director of the Community Foundation of Harford County. For the past five years she served as director of development for the Ignatian Volunteer Corps, a national volunteer organization for older adults based in Baltimore. Zavislan serves on the Small Shop Fundraiser Roundtable and Program Committee of the Maryland chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She is also on the steering committee for the Susquehanna Professional Association of Nonprofits.
Public Relations
Theresa G. Wiseman has been named president of MediaWise, a media relations consulting business based in Bel Air. She previously was director of media relations at College of Notre Dame of Maryland. Wiseman has worked at The Catholic Review newspaper in Baltimore, and as producer of Catholic News Radio and interim communications director for the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Notre Dame has honored her with its Outstanding Recent Graduate Award in 2000 and its SSND Mission and Ministry Award.
David Aglar has been named a vice president in the national digital communications practice of Weber Shandwick, based in the company’s Baltimore office. Aglar joined Weber Shandwick in 2007 with a broad background in traditional, broadcast and interactive media advertising.
Technology
Patrick M. Antkowiak has been named vice president and general manager of the advanced concepts & technologies division for Northrop Grumman’s electronic systems sector. He will be located at the company’s complex in Linthicum. Since joining the company in 1981 Antkowiak has held positions in engineering, program management and product development. He has degrees from Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland.
