The city’s premier running event, the Baltimore Running Festival and Baltimore Marathon, will continue to carry the Under Armour name after the athletic apparel maker extended its sponsorship through 2012.
Corrigan Sports Enterprises, the event’s producer, said Friday that Baltimore-based Under Armour had agreed to extend its sponsorship. Under Armour has been the title sponsor of the marathon and running festival since 2003.
“Under Armour’s support has been crucial in turning this festival from a local event into a global Baltimore tradition,” said Lee Corrigan, president of Corrigan Sports Enterprises, in a prepared statement. “We are thrilled to have Under Armour as our partner for the next several years; they share our continued commitment to the city of Baltimore and to our runners, and bring a sense of authenticity and passion to an already exciting event. We are excited to discover how this partnership will help grow the Baltimore Running Festival.”
The 2010 Under Armour Baltimore Running Festival, now in its 10th year, will take place on Oct. 16 and will include the Under Armour Baltimore Marathon; the CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Half-Marathon; the United Way 5K; the Legg Mason Team Relay and Kids’ Fun Run. Participants this year include 22,000 runners coming from all 50 states, D.C. and more than 20 countries.
Organizers said the event has had an economic impact on the Baltimore area of more than $135M in revenue for the city and state and more than $5M for local charities since its inception in 2001.
