On the Move, 10/18: Kary hired as VP by Volunteers of America Chesapeake

Jan Kary has been hired as vice president of development/external affairs by Volunteers of America Chesapeake. She will oversee the development business unit and be responsible for the direction of all development activities, including fundraising, major gift campaigns, government grants and compliance, donor relations and program revenue expansion. Kary will also work with Volunteers of America’s national office. Most recently, Kary served as senior vice president of marketing and development for World Relief. She has also served as managing director to Orr Associates, where she supervised fundraising efforts for clients of Washington, D.C.-based agencies in the areas of health, youth initiatives, faith-based ministries and other nonprofits. Before that, she served as director of market development at Prison Fellowship in Leesburg.

Awards

Six directors in the audit, accounting and consulting department of Ellin & Tucker have been named SmartCPAs by SmartCEO magazine in its September issue: Charles H. Brown III; Todd A. Feuerman; Harold I. Hackerman; Carl Kampel; Joel H. Kaye; and Donald S. Miller. Also, J. Randolph Respess, a principal in the firm’s tax department, has also been named a SmartCPA by the magazine. Ellin & Tucker is an accounting and consulting firm with offices in Baltimore, Belcamp, and Frederick, Md., and Washington, D.C.

Development

Robert A. Rosenbaum has been appointed president and executive director of the Maryland Technology Development Corp. His focus will be to build TEDCO’s reputation as a technology-based economic development organization. Since 2003, Rosenbaum had served as a managing director of Nobska Venture Partners in Baltimore, an early-stage venture fund. Before that, he was vice president of operations for Agora Publishing in Baltimore; chief operating officer of Versient Corp., in Hunt Valley; and director of information technology for Stride Ride Corp., in Lexington, Mass. Also, John Wasilisin, TEDCO’s acting president and executive director, has been given an expanded role within the organization as executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Education

Anne Arundel Community College has awarded emeritus status to three recently retired long-term faculty members: Richard Niewerth of Severna Park, professor of art, 39 years on the faculty; Richard Faircloth, professor of biology, 35 years of service; and Norma Hamilton, professor of nursing, 28 years of service.

Finance

Jim Hayes recently was appointed executive vice president/chief financial officer of Andrews Federal Credit Union, of Suitland. Hayes previously was senior vice president/chief financial officer of WesCorp. He also has held federal examiner positions with the Office of Thrift Supervision and the National Credit Union Administration. Hayes began his financial career as an auditor with Deloitte & Touche, where he specialized in financial institutions and real estate development.
