State Sen. Verna L. Jones and retired educator Ernestine Jones Jolivet are planning committee members for the sixth annual Pythias A. and Virginia I. Jones African American Community Forum on Memory Loss, being presented Nov. 13 at Coppin State University by the Alzheimer’s Association’s Greater Maryland Chapter. The sisters, along with their brothers, Alvin A. Jones and Dr. Pythias D. Jones, founded the event, which is named in honor of their parents. This year’s forum will include health screenings, exhibits, a panel discussion of individuals affected by dementia, and a discussion led by Dr. Christopher Marano of the Johns Hopkins Memory and Alzheimer’s Treatment Center. Admission is free, with registration required by Nov. 5. Research suggests that the disease occurs more often in African-American families.
