ANNAPOLIS — Maryland Rep. Chris Van Hollen wants to be the ranking Democrat on the House Budget Committee.
Van Hollen sent a letter on Wednesday to congressional colleagues to ask for their support.
Van Hollen says the committee will be a central front in the national conversation about how to accelerate job creation and economic growth.
Van Hollen has served two election cycles as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which is in charge of the House Democrats’ campaign efforts. He did well in that role in the 2008 election cycle, when Democrats picked up more than 20 Republican seats. But this year was a disaster for the Democrats, who will hand over the House majority to Republicans in January.
