ADAMSTOWN — State lawmakers from Frederick County are endorsing a former factory site near Adamstown as a training center for U.S. embassy security workers.
The county’s delegation to the General Assembly agreed Friday to write a letter supporting Alcoa Inc.’s efforts to interest the federal government in the 2,200-acre parcel.
Alcoa plans to demolish the Eastalco aluminum smelting plant it shut down in late 2005.
The State Department wants to consolidate within 150 miles of Washington its “hard skills” training in shooting, fighting and driving.
The government backed off its first choice, near the Eastern Shore town of Ruthsburg, amid opposition from Queen Anne’s County officials concerned about noise, traffic and water pollution.
