Maryland regulators are investigating a complaint about an abortion doctor who recently opened a clinic in suburban Washington.
The Maryland Board of Physicians says in a letter that it has launched a full investigation of a complaint about Dr. LeRoy Carhart.
Carhart is based in Nebraska and is one of the nation’s few late-term abortion providers. He opened a clinic last year in Germantown.
The complaint was filed in December by a representative of Operation Rescue, a group that tries to shut down abortion clinics. Among other allegations, it says Carhart did not disclose that he would be providing late-term abortions when he applied for his Maryland license.
An attorney for Carhart declined to comment because he had not been officially informed about the complaint or investigation.
