The Port of Baltimore is welcoming a giant container ship.
The MSC Sindy will dock at the port on Monday. Former congresswoman Helen Delich Bentley, a longtime advocate for the port, says it’s the second ship of such size to call at Baltimore. It can bear 9,200 20-foot shipping containers on a single voyage.
Bentley says the ship is able to dock at Baltimore because of the port’s 50-foot shipping channel. Norfolk is the only other port on the East Coast with such a deep channel.
Bentley will be there Monday morning to welcome the ship along with officials from the Maryland Port Administration and from the ship’s operator, Mediterranean Shipping Company.
