Hillcrest Laboratories Inc. of Rockville, a developer of in-air pointing and motion control technology, said California-based Roku Inc. has licensed its patented Freespace MotionEngine software for use with Roku’s motion-sensing remote and its new line of Roku 2 streaming players.
The Roku Game Remote, which uses Hillcrest’s MotionEngine technology, provides motion-sensing control in game play and screen navigation for all three Roku 2 models. Roku devices stream movies, TV shows, music, games and other entertainment to TV sets via the Internet.
Other companies that have licensed Hillcrest’s Freespace technology include LG Electronics, Sony Computer Entertainment, Logitech, Eastman Kodak and Universal Electronics.
