The U.S. General Services Administration said it has acquired a 63-acre site at the Urbana Corporate Park in Frederick County on which to construct the Social Security Administration’s new national data facility.
The site, picked from more than 150 potential locations, provides the best opportunity for timely and cost-effective construction of the facility, the GSA said.
The site, located at MD Route 80 (Fingerboard Road), near the I-270 interchange, is currently undeveloped and is zoned for mixed-use development.
Approximately $500 million in economic stimulus funding has been allocated for the data center, which will replace an existing facility in Woodlawn that is more than 30 years old.
The LEED-Gold facility is slated for completion in 2015.
