The Johns Hopkins Center for American Indian Health will receive $2.25 million over two years from the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation to mark the first anniversary of “Together on Diabetes,” a five-year, $100 million initiative to improve health outcomes for American adults living with type 2 diabetes.

The grant, announced Monday, is part of $18.4 million awarded to eight health care institutions nationwide to help communities hardest hit by diabetes.

The grant to Hopkins, the largest of the eight awarded, will target four Navajo and Apache communities in the Southwest, which have the highest rates of type 2 diabetes in the nation, according to the announcement.
