ROCKVILLE — The Montgomery County Council has delayed action on a youth curfew plan proposed by County Executive Isiah Leggett.
Lawmakers voted 6 to 3 on Tuesday to delay the vote. The curfew would make it generally illegal for anyone under 18 to be outside after midnight on weekends and 11 p.m. during the week. It was proposed over the summer after a gang fight in Silver Spring.
Council members have said that crime in the county is not dire enough to warrant the curfew.
Leggett said in a statement Tuesday that the Council’s refusal to take a vote on the measure shows “a failure of leadership.”
Tabling the measure means it can be brought up again and voted on during the next 18 months.
