Maryland is leading the nation in the percentage of graduating seniors who passed the Advanced Placement exams for the fourth year in a row.

The percentage of Maryland seniors who earned a score of 3 or higher on one or more AP exams reached 27.9 percent in 2011. That score is the threshold for many colleges and universities to award college credit.

About 46 percent of Maryland seniors completed an AP exam, second only to Florida, where about 47 percent completed exams.

The news comes on the heels of Education Week’s “Quality Counts” report ranking Maryland schools first in the nation for the fourth consecutive year. That report looks at policy and performance measures, including AP data.
