HAGERSTOWN — The minor-league Hagerstown Suns are signaling a possible move to Winchester, Va.
Documents on Winchester’s government website show that Hagerstown Baseball LLC signed a letter of intent last month to move the club there, provided certain conditions are met by April 17.
One condition is funding for a new stadium. The Winchester City Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday on the proposed construction of a baseball stadium at Jim Barnett Park.
The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown quoted Hagerstown Mayor Robert Bruchey on Friday as saying a team official has told him the Suns would prefer to stay in Hagerstown.
Bruchey says the city is considering building a new sports facility. The Suns have played at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown since 1981. The stadium is more than 80 years old.
