Movers & Shakers, 2/13: Hughes named chief technology officer of Next Century Corp.

Todd C. Hughes has been appointed chief technology officer of Next Century Corp., a technology solutions company specializing in the U.S. Department of Defense and Intelligence Community. Hughes is responsible for overall technology leadership and execution of strategic technical initiatives. Before joining the Columbia company he was a program manager with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. He also has held management and technical positions at Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Laboratories and Cycorp Inc.

Boards

Erika Palmer, an asset manager with Manekin, of Columbia, has begun a two-year term as first vice president on the board of directors of the Building Owners and Managers Association of Greater Baltimore. Palmer had been second vice president for the past two years and chair of the community services committee since 2007. She manages 36 South Charles St., a 25-story office building in downtown Baltimore. Palmer has received two BOMA Baltimore Building of the Year Competition Awards of Excellence for office building management. Her degrees include a bachelor’s degree from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland.

The Y of Central Maryland has appointed two members to its Anne Arundel County Community Advisory Board: David Huggins is an independent consultant who provides technical and business advice to clients on the development of nickel laterites. Jeffrey Tomitz is chief financial officer, treasurer at the American Council on Education in Washington, D.C.

Consulting

Tom Condrasky has been hired as a financial service and client relationship manager by McLean, Koehler, Sparks & Hammond, of Hunt Valley. He previously was director of sales for a hydrogen hybrid technology company. Before that Condrasky was a sales specialist at Paychex. He also has sold insurance and annuities for John Hancock Life Insurance Co. Condrasky has a finance degree from the University of Maryland.

Engineering

Tom Kubicz has been promoted from lead highway engineer to transportation division manager in the Baltimore office of Pennoni Associates. Kubicz, who has 11 years of experience, has an MBA from a combined program at the University of Baltimore and Towson University. His specialties include highway design, ADA improvement projects, transportation enhancement and streetscape projects.

Real Estate

Melissa Gambuto has been named regional manager of Continental Realty Corp.’s residential division. She previously was general manager for Bozzuto Management, where she managed a number of properties in Harbor East. In her new position, Gambuto will assume the property management oversight of Parkwood Court, a 189-unit apartment community in Alexandria, Va., that was recently acquired by an affiliate of Continental Realty. She has a bachelor’s degree in business management from Towson University. She is a licensed Maryland Real Estate agent and was named property manager of the year in 2010 by Bozzuto Management.

The Baltimore Business Journal recognized two MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate associates as 2011 Top Real Estate Professionals: J. Scott Wimbrow and Patricia “Trish” Farrell were the #8 and #14 top agents in the Baltimore commercial market. Also receiving awards late last year were Vice President Brendan O. Gill, recognized by the National Association of Industrial and Office Professionals as a developing leader, and Senior Real Estate Advisor Meghan G. Roy, who was named by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as among Baltimore’s Finest 35 Under 35 for her work with the foundation.

Residential

James Andre Parker has been named resident services manager of MonteVerde, a 301-unit residence in Lower Park Heights, Baltimore, by AHC Greater Baltimore, a developer of affordable housing communities. Parker most recently had been resident services manager with the Community Preservation Development Corp., where he had worked since 2005. The Lincoln University graduate has more than 15 years of social services experience.
