ANNAPOLIS — Members of the House of Delegates say a measure to expand gambling in Maryland will have to be significantly altered to earn approval of their chamber.

Delegate Frank Turner, who leads a subcommittee that will examine the proposal, said Tuesday that the House needs to make “major changes” to the bill.

The proposal would create a sixth Maryland casino and legalize table games.

If the chamber rejects the measure, Turner, a Howard County Democrat, says the House could offer up other legislation, like a bill to simply legalize table games.

Turner and House members say they don’t think the state will get enough money from the expansion.

Turner says the subcommittee won’t issue a vote on the legislation until later this week. The Legislature has until Monday to pass bills.
