The Maryland Food Bank says it’s expanding into western Maryland.

The food bank, which works to fight hunger, announced Wednesday that it is merging with Food Resources of Hagerstown.

The new branch will serve as a central distribution point for a network of more than 120 soup kitchens, pantries and shelters in Allegany, Frederick, Garrett and Washington counties.

The Maryland Food Bank has facilities in Baltimore and Salisbury with a total of nearly 107,000-square-feet of warehouse, refrigerator and freezer space.
