Mount Savage getting more reliable clean water

MOUNT SAVAGE — About 450 people in western Maryland town of Mount Savage are getting more reliable drinking water.
Maryland Congressman Roscoe Bartlett is among the dignitaries scheduled to attend a dedication ceremony Monday for the energy-efficient water distribution system.
The project brings treated water from the city of Frostburg to Mount Savage, about five miles away.
A new pipeline carries untreated water down Big Savage Mountain. That water powers a small hydroelectric generator to offset the city’s cost of pumping treated water up the other side of the mountain.
The system replaces groundwater sources that were subject to contamination from surface water.
The system was built with $1.7 million in federal grants and loans.
