WASHINGTON — Washington’s Metro system is operating a normal weekday schedule for the first commute after superstorm Sandy.

Trains appeared to be running mostly on schedule Wednesday morning. On Metro’s red line, running from Montgomery County into downtown Washington, commuters appeared to be resuming normal life. The trains carried a regular heavy load of rush-hour passengers.

Carol Stoel of Washington, who is a government employee, says she worked from home during the storm Monday and Tuesday but was relieved trains were running again Wednesday. She said it feels great to get back to work. But she’s worried about her daughter who lives in New York.

Metro says it’s running a regular weekday bus schedule across the Washington region. There are some detours and delays due to downed trees and power lines.
