Hagerstown stair maker buys Ohio firm, adds jobs

HAGERSTOWN — A Hagerstown maker of spiral staircases says it plans to add at least 50 jobs following its acquisition of an Ohio stair manufacturer.

The Herald-Mail reported in its Tuesday edition on the growth plans of Duvinage Corp., one of the nation’s oldest makers of spiral steel staircases.

President Robert Maruszewski says Duvinage has purchased Worthington Metal Fabricators, formerly Sharon Stairs, of Akron, Ohio. He says Worthington’s production is shifting to Hagerstown.

Maruszewski says Duvinage hired three former Worthington workers, bringing employment at Duvinage to 25. He says Duvinage plans to hire at least 50 more workers over the next five years.

Worthington specializes in stairwell stairs designed to meet safety codes in commercial buildings.

Duvinage is owned by the Washington investment firm Key Bridge Partners.
