ANNAPOLIS — A woman who was driving on a learner’s permit and caused a fatal crash has been sentenced to jail and home detention.
Twenty-year-old Elizabeth Ramirez of Millersville was sentenced to six months in jail, followed by six months home detention on Monday.
Ramirez had been convicted of negligent manslaughter in the July 2011 accident that killed 63-year-old Javaid Firdaus of Glen Burnie.
Prosecutors said Ramirez gave three friends a ride on and was waiting for a red left turn arrow to turn green. Authorities say Ramirez thought the light had turned green and turned into the path of a taxi driven by Firdaus.
The Capital of Annapolis reports that Ramirez apologized to Firdaus’ family in court.
