ANNAPOLIS — The Maryland Court of Appeals has temporarily put on hold a judge’s decision regarding former Del. Tiffany Alston and the man who wants to replace her.

The Washington Post reported that the court granted the stay to give attorneys a chance to respond by Wednesday. Greg Hall, who was initially nominated by the Prince George’s Democratic Central Committee to take Alston’s place, prompted the court’s stay.

Critics have noted Hall’s criminal record from 20 years ago as a reason for the committee to withdraw his name.

A judge ruled Wednesday that Alston was automatically removed from office after a conviction for misconduct in office. The judge also ruled that Hall did not have a legal claim to the seat, because O’Malley had not yet appointed him.
