FREDERICK — A court document indicates Frederick County sheriff’s deputies fired at least 18 shots at a Mount Airy teenager who was killed after police say he refused to drop a shotgun.
The Frederick News-Post reported Tuesday on court documents stemming from the raid last week at 19-year-old Daniel Vail’s apartment.
A Vail family attorney gave the newspaper an inventory of evidence gathered by investigators after the shooting.
The inventory included 18 9mm shell casings. It also included a 12-gauge shotgun loaded with seven slugs. More slugs were found next to Vail’s bed.
A police spokeswoman said injuries were found on Vail’s hands and damage was found on the shotgun’s pump action.
The sheriff’s office says deputies Charles Zang and Kevin Riffle found Vail in his bedroom, pointing a shotgun toward them.
