FREDERICK — Opening arguments are getting underway in a lawsuit filed by relatives of a Libertytown woman who was shot and killed by a state trooper inside her home in 2010.
The Frederick News-Post reports that the family of Veronica Harding-Perkins is seeking a multimillion-dollar judgment. A judge denied a motion by the state to dismiss the lawsuit on Tuesday. The trial was scheduled to start Wednesday and continue through next week.
Harding-Perkins was shot in June 2010 after her husband called 911 to report that she had been drinking and throwing furniture out of their home. Police said a trooper opened fire after he saw a gun in her hand. A barricade was set up around the house, and police entered more than five hours later to find Harding-Perkins dead.
