HAGERSTOWN — A Hagerstown woman is avoiding jail time after striking a plea deal in the drowning death of her 7-month-old son.

Twenty-seven-year-old Taria King pleaded guilty Thursday to reckless endangerment in the death last March of Ronald Oliver Jr.

She was placed on three years of unsupervised probation. A 2 1/2-year prison sentence was suspended.

Washington County prosecutors dropped charges of manslaughter and neglect of a minor.

King allegedly told police she left the boy and his toddler brother unattended in a bathtub while she slept. She told police she was awakened by the older child and found Ronald face-down in the water.

Investigators say there was about four inches of water in the tub.
