TeleCommunication Systems Inc., of Annapolis, a provider of secure mobile communication technology, said that it has entered into a patent licensing alliance with a subsidiary of Acacia Research Corp.

Under the alliance, the Acacia subsidiary has acquired the rights to a portion of TCS’ location-based services patent portfolio. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Acacia, of Newport Beach, Calif., is a publicly traded company whose subsidiaries partner with inventors and patent owners, license the patents to corporate users, and share the revenue. Acacia’s subsidiaries control 250 patent portfolios, covering technologies used in a wide variety of industries.
