FREDERICK — A local charitable group says it plans to buy the Cultural Arts Center in downtown Frederick.
The Frederick News-Post reports that the Ausherman Family Foundation said Thursday it intends to keep the building in use as a performing arts center.
The building is home to the Maryland Shakespeare Festival. It has served for 15 years as a performance and rehearsal space under the ownership of the Frederick Arts Council.
The council said in September it planned to sell the building, partly due to funding cuts by the city and Frederick County.
The Ausherman foundation supports arts and culture, youth and families, and education. It sponsors a speaker series that is bringing former Secretary of State Colin Powell and National Public Radio personality Terry Gross to Frederick this year.
