ARLINGTON, Va. — Documents show some top executives at the board that manages the Washington region’s airports have spent tens of thousands of dollars on travel, meals and similar expenses.
The expense reports obtained by The Washington Post show that at least for top officials at the Metropolitan Washignton Airports Authority each filed more than $10,000 in expenses during a 15-month period from July 2011 through October 2012.
The records show that one MWAA vice president spent $12,000 on a single plane ticket. In most cases, the money was spent to attend industry conferences, training or meetings about the authority.
The spending doesn’t appear to have violated MWAA’s policies at the time. The board was recently criticized over its travel and ethics policies, which have since been changed.
