Ocean City eliminating some free parking

OCEAN CITY — Ocean City town officials say the beach resort is planning to eliminate free parking on four streets to raise revenue.
Resort officials say the move is expected to raise about $130,000. Meters that accept quarters and credit cards will be placed on Philadelphia Avenue between First and North Division streets, and on 49th, 131st and 146th streets.
Paid parking is one of a number of steps being taken to balance the resort’s budget, including cuts to bus service and increased ambulance fees.
The Daily Times of Salisbury reports the proposal prompted complaints from the head of a condominium association, who said it might cause traffic problems from drivers looking for free parking. A 2010 proposal to add paid parking to 146th Street failed following complaints from condominium owners.
