NPS picks new Chesapeake Bay office superintendent

ANNAPOLIS — The National Park Service has chosen a new superintendent for its Chesapeake Bay office.

The service announced the selection of Charles Hunt on Wednesday. He will lead the office that includes the Chesapeake Bay Gateways and Watertrails Network and the Captain John Smith Chesapeake and Star-Spangled Banner national historic trails. The bay watershed includes parts Delaware, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia as well as the District of Columbia.

Hunt comes to the park service after working as a regional director for the American Battle Monuments Commission. He managed 23 sites in France, the United Kingdom, Italy and Belgium. Before that, he managed the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in France.

Dennis Reidenbach, director of the service’s northeast region, says Hunt takes a collaborative approach to building consensus.
