FREDERICK — Incumbent Mayor Randy McClement has won Frederick’s Republican primary and Alderwoman Karen Young took the Democratic nomination.
Frederick officials say unofficial results with all but absentee ballots counted, McClement took 49 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s Republican primary and Young won 50 percent in the Democratic race. They will join former Mayor Jennifer Dougherty, who is running as an unaffiliated candidate, in the Nov. 5 general election.
Voter turnout was lower than in the last two elections, despite an increase in the number of registered voters. About 15 percent of registered voters came out to the polls Tuesday, or about 4,000 of the more than 27,000 registered voters.
Those figures do not include the 148 Democratic and 94 Republican absentee ballots that will be counted Thursday.
