The U.S. Navy announced Tuesday the selection of Baltimore as one of six cities in the U.S. to host Navy Week, one of its signature outreach programs.
The Baltimore Navy Week is scheduled for Sept. 8-14, 2014, coinciding with Baltimore’s Star-Spangled Spectacular, the culminating event of Maryland’s three-year commemoration of the bicentennial of the War of 1812.
Among Navy activities and presentations will be the Blue Angels flight demonstration team, whose participation was announced in December 2012; the Leap Frogs parachute team, visiting Navy ships, musical performances by the Navy Band, and visits by senior Navy leaders.
The Star-Spangled Sailabration which opened the bicentennial attracted 1.5 million visitors to Baltimore and surroundings in June 2012.
