ANNAPOLIS — Sen. James Robey will serve as Senate majority leader during his final year in the Maryland General Assembly.
The Washington Post reports that Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. made the announcement Thursday.
The Howard County Democrat takes over from former Sen. Robert Garagiola (gair-ah-jee-OH’-lah). The Montgomery County Democrat recently retired from the Senate and is now with Alexander & Cleaver, a law firm with a major lobbying presence in Annapolis.
Robey has been a member of the Senate since 2007 but is not seeking re-election next year. He previously served as Howard County executive and county police chief.
