Harford County Executive David R. Craig is expected Tuesday morning to make an announcement regarding a “major tax cut that will be part of his campaign for the Republican nomination for Maryland governor.
“It is a massive re-thinking of the Maryland tax code and budget,” said Jim Pettit, a spokesman for the campaign.
Craig is expected to criticize Gov. Martin J. O’Malley and Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown, who is running for governor in the Democratic primary, for “70 levies that have been raised since 2007.”
Craig apparently will not focus on proposals to overturn specific taxes imposed or raised by O’Malley and Brown since 2007.
Pettit said the announcement will be “a bold, sweeping proposal that changes the budget and tax climate in Maryland as we know it.”
“David is extremely frustrated with the current tax code,” Pettit said. “He has people coming up to him all the time saying they are going to move to Delaware and Pennsylvania.”
