A natural gas generation facility in Conowingo got the final go-ahead from state officials Tuesday.
Wildcat Point Generation Facility, proposed by Old Dominion Electric Cooperative, is planned to be located adjacent to ODEC’s existing facility in Conowingo.
The Maryland Public Service Commission granted preliminary approval for the project on March 24. That became final Tuesday since no appeals to the proposed order were filed. ODEC’s proposal has been under review for nearly a year.
ODEC has said that the $675 million project would create 600 construction jobs and 30 permanent jobs once it begins operating, which is planned for 2017.
“The PSC’s decision is an important win for our members and for the region’s energy future,” said Jackson Reasor, president and CEO of ODEC, in a press release about the approval.
