FREDERICK — Hood College President Ronald Volpe says he’s stepping down after leading the private, liberal-arts school in Frederick through 14 years of change and growth.
The 68-year-old Volpe said Thursday he will leave the school in June 2015.
Hood’s residential student population was restricted to women when Volpe arrived in 2001. He led the school’s transformation into a fully coeducational institution by 2003.
The change boosted enrollment and helped strengthen the school’s finances, enabling it to renovate aging buildings and build an athletic center.
Board of Trustees Chairman Phil Berkheimer told The Frederick News-Post the board will conduct a nationwide search for new president in hopes of selecting Volpe’s successor next spring.
