Former manager alleges racial discrimination, sues Self Storage

A former manager with Rockville-based Self Storage Services Inc. has filed a $1 million federal lawsuit alleging racial discrimination by the company. Jennifer Dandridge, who is black, claims she managed two Self Storage locations in Waldorf but was paid less than non-black managers who oversaw only one store. Dandridge was fired by Self Storage “without any notice or reason” July 16 and replaced by a “less-qualified white male,” the lawsuit states. The company also failed to pay the employer portion of Dandridge’s health insurance premium since February 2014, the lawsuit states. Dandridge worked at Self Storage for 16 years, the last four as a manger, according to the complaint, filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt. Daniel Stanton, vice president of operations with Self Storage, declined to comment.
