Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger (center in photo at right) on Monday presented awards to three students from Chesapeake High School in Essex as the winners of his first high school App Challenge. The academic competition, which was open to all high school students who reside in Maryland’s second congressional district, required students to create an original software application. The winners — Austen Edelenbos (right), Christopher Delen (left) and Ruth Ndekhedehe — created an app that serves as a personal guide for a walking tour of popular sites around the National Mall in Washington. The software uses phones’ GPS systems to deploy text and audio information about nearby attractions. The students have made their app available for free on Google Play.
