38 Studios lobbying hearing delayed again

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A hearing into potential lobbying violations related to 38 Studios is being continued again, this time at the request of Secretary of State Ralph Mollis’ office.

A hearing was scheduled Tuesday on whether attorney Michael Corso lobbied — without registering — on the deal that gave ex-Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling’s video game company a $75 million state-backed loan. The proceeding was pushed to Aug. 26.

The Providence Journal reports Mollis’ office has petitioned Superior Court to preserve evidence. His office wants to take depositions from Schilling and others. A hearing is scheduled for Aug. 18.

Corso’s attorney objected to the continuance, saying Mollis’ office hasn’t been prepared to present evidence and is delaying to keep the issue in the spotlight until his primary. He’s running for lieutenant governor.
