Annapolis names acting city manager

Annapolis Mayor Michael Pantelides has named Public Works Director David Jarrell as acting city manager, effective Thursday.

Jarrell, who has 30-plus years of experience in engineering, has been Public Works director since 2010. He retired from the U.S. Navy’s Civil Engineer Corps in 1998 and served as San Diego’s deputy chief operating officer, overseeing five operating departments.

Marcia Patrick, assistant director of Public Works, will step in as acting director.

Brian Woodward, the Recreation and Parks director who was serving as acting city manager, announced earlier this month he would resign at the end of July, citing health issues. The previous acting city manager, Virginia Burke, resigned in March, giving no reason.

Pantelides fired City Manager Mike Mallinoff on Jan. 8.
