State sales tax holiday begins Sunday

Maryland’s Tax Free Week is from Sunday, Aug. 10, through Saturday, Aug. 16. Maryland consumers can save money during this week by not paying Maryland’s 6 percent sales tax on most clothing and shoes priced under $100 when shopping at retailers.

The average family with children in grades K-12 is expected to spend $339.52 on apparel and shoes this year in preparation for sending their children to school, according to the National Retail Federation. Total spending on back-to-school items is expected to reach $26.5 billion, about the same as last year.

Accessory items are not included in the sales tax holiday.
