Holocaust museum facility in Bowie

(AP) The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum has identified a site in Bowie for a new, $40 million facility that will house its archives. The museum announced last year that it would build the David and Fela Shapell Family Collections and Conservation Center to store its collection, which is expected to double in size over the next decade. More recently, the museum has secured land in Bowie to build the facility. Officials hope to break ground within the next six months, with a goal of completing the building by the end of 2016. Museum spokesman Andy Hollinger says about half of the $40 million needed to build the facility has been raised. It’s part of a larger, $540 million campaign to keep the memory of the Holocaust alive.
