The U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration Tuesday announced new export data that shows merchandise exports from the Baltimore-Columbia-Towson metropolitan area totaled a record $5.9 billion, an increase of 2 percent, or $97 million, from 2012 to 2013. This growth helped Baltimore to remain a top metropolitan area for exports in 2013, ranking No. 46 in the country. Key merchandise export categories for the Baltimore metro area in 2013 included computer and electronic products, chemicals, transportation equipment, machinery and miscellaneous manufactures. Canada, Mexico, China, the United Kingdom and Egypt were the leading destinations for Baltimore exports.
