Samuel Johnson Jr.
Chief Executive Officer
Mangfold Group LLC
Samuel Johnson Jr. was first introduced into the world of public safety thanks to his father, who is now a retired Baltimore city firefighter.
Over more than a decade, Johnson has been able to craft a diverse background in the public safety and government realms. The Johns Hopkins University graduate began his public safety career as a Baltimore police officer for five years. Shifting to the private sector, he did risk management and emergency preparedness as a director of support services for Target Corp.
Returning to government in 2013, Johnson served as a housing manager for Baltimore Housing for a year before moving to the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management as regional director of training and education.
In 2015, he became Baltimore City Fire Department’s Director of Communications leading the development, implementation and promotion of two direct hire programs focused on increasing the number of city residents working for the department.
The success of the programs led Johnson to leave the department to create Mangfold Group LLC, a public safety consulting firm handling multiple needs including emergency preparedness, training, and recruitment and retention.
He is involved with multiple organizations across the region including the Ladarius Webb Foundation and the Walters Art Museum’s Walters Enthusiasts. He is driven to give his time citing the “missions of the organizations and wanting to connect with like-minded individuals to help — as I do in my professional career — work on problems to help bring about change.”
