Allan H. Kittleman
Howard County Government
When Howard County residents are in need of services, the ability to travel to different parts of the county where providers are located may be out of reach. But Howard County Executive Allan H. Kittleman reimagined a more efficient and effective way to get those human services to those who need it most
This past June, Kittleman cut the Grand Opening ribbon at The NonProfit Collaborative of Howard County, a Center that houses more than a dozen critical, privately funded support organizations. Located on a bus route, the Center that so many county nonprofit organizations has wished for serves 1,300 residents every month and expects that number to increase significantly next year.
Kittleman’s administration also came up with an additional plan for the Columbia-based site — turning the area into the Howard County Community Resources Campus. Multiple county departments compliment the nonprofits’ missions on the property, and act as a “one-stop-shop” for human services. Kittleman, who was elected in 2014, also recruited the state’s Department of Social Services for the move next year.
With the relocation of services approved in Kittleman’s Fiscal 2018 county budget, renovations and other building preparations are now underway and are expected to be complete in early 2018.
